Volunteers are vital to our service!

During the past year, over 486 volunteers provided 48,203 hours of devoted time to the Action Center programs and activities, along with 13,487Food Bank volunteer hours devoted to the hot lunch delivery programs.

Volunteers are necessary in all client services programs, special events, in the main office reception, record keeping, and computer entry activities.

Make new friends and help your neighbors by volunteering! We need volunteers in all of our areas:

Food Bank -(An emergency 5-day food supply is given to clients, six times a year.) Volunteers divide donated food into smaller portions, restock foods shelves, and fill food orders according to the household size.

Clothing Bank - (Clients can receive clothing once per month.) Volunteer register the client, help clients find clothing items and record the number of items taken.

Student VolunteersClothing Sorters - Volunteers sort through all donated clothing, select clothing in good condition, hang clothing in the clothing bank, and discard the rest.

Phone Desk - Volunteers answer the phones, give out directions, hours and determine the appropriate referral to staff members.

Emergency Services Counselors - Volunteers work directly with clients in the emergency services department. Volunteer counselors conduct intake meetings with clients and learn about the client's situation in order to make referrals for services from the Action Center. EMS counselors also refer clients to other community resources for additional assistance.

Dock - Volunteer greets and thanks donors, unloads donations from the vehicle, distributes receipts, and keeps the dock clean and organized.

Client Desk - Volunteers greet the clients, check their identification, explain services available at JAC, fill out a client intake form and card, and refer them to the next available EMS counselor for services.

Client Database Volunteers - Interested in working with computers, but don't have experience? We provide all training for anyone interested in learning how to use the new Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) database now used by many nonprofits throughout the state. We have options for data entry, including client contact or behind the scenes data entry.

Shelter Assistants - Volunteers assist the shelter manager with meals, housekeeping, dispensing keys and personal items.Food Bank

Tenant/Landlord Counseling - Volunteers answer phone calls and inform clients of their rights, as well as the guidelines and procedures related to tenant and landlord issues in the state of Colorado.

Santa Shop - Volunteers sort through donated toys making sure they are clean, in working order and have all the pieces needed.

J-Help/Meals-On-Wheels - Volunteers and substitutes help prepare, pack and drive meals to clients within Jefferson County.

Special Events Volunteers - Work at the bi-annual Beautiful Junk Sale, the Annual Fundraiser Breakfast or other special events.

Additional volunteers are needed to help with special projects. Let us know if you have any skills that may be useful to the Jeffco Action Center.

Group Ideas

Need ideas for how your group can help? Food drives are a fun and easy way to help your neighbors in need. They are also a good way to promote teamwork! You can organize a food drive at your school, workplace or through your organization. The Jeffco Action Center can provide you with needs lists, flyers and signs.

Fall means back-to-school for kids. Unfortunately, many Jefferson County children can't afford the supplies they need. Each fall, the Jeffco Action Center distributes school supplies to thousands of school children, so you can see that the need is great. Your group can organize a school supply drive to help make sure that more children are prepared and ready to learn.

The holidays can be a difficult time for many families. You can help make the season a little brighter for some by organizing a holiday food or toy drive.
