Why do we need the Jeffco Action Center?

The answer is simple, the solution is complex. Colorado has been rated as the third most expensive state to live, based on the ratio of wages to housing costs. A family of two earning $15 per hour is at risk of becoming homeless. We see very few people at Jeffco Action Center making $15 per hour, but we do see babies who go without a regular diaper change. We see children who seldom smile due to hunger. We see Counselingparents who are ashamed that, despite their full time job, just cannot make enough to feed and clothe their children. This is a growing population that cannot afford even the basic needs no matter how hard they try. The Jeffco Action Center provides these people with a safety net and a lifeline.

Since 1968, Jeffco Action Center, Inc. has been providing essential stabilizing services to the people in Jefferson County who are in danger of becoming homeless, or attempting to move out of homelessness. It serves as a haven of hope for the thousands of homeless, near homeless, and working poor who come through our door every year. People can receive assistance with a five-day supply of food, clothing for the whole family, necessary household items, and medical care.

They may also register for temporary shelter at the Jeffco Action Center's Shelter, as well as begin the process of applying for the Food Stamps and Colorado Works programs.
